A power supply having an overvoltage protection function of an image display device is provided to block an overvoltage without a complicated control process by lowering a power voltage supplied to a controller IC to stop the driving of the controller IC by turning on a switching element according to a reference voltage flowing in an error amplifier. A power supply having an overvoltage protection function of an image display device comprises the followings: a power input unit(200) for inputting AC(Alternating Current) power; a rectifying unit(240) for rectifying the AC power inputted from the power input unit to DC(Direct Current) power; an error amplifier(260) for detecting voltage of power rectified from the rectifying unit and outputting voltage above a predetermined level when abnormal overvoltage is detected; a switching element(250) for decreasing power voltage inputted in a controller IC(Integrated Circuit) turned on by the output voltage of the error amplifier below a predetermined voltage level; and a controller IC(280) for preventing damage or overheating by blocking supply power of a smoothing capacitor unit.
