The present invention provides a steel material excellent in laser-weldability even without removing mill scales, and relates to a steel for laser welding; containing, by weight %, 0.01 to 0.20% of C, 0.01 to 1.5% of Si, 0.2 to 2.0% of Mn, 0.02% or less of P, 0.02% or less of S and 0.0005 to 1.0% of Al; the balance consisting of Fe and unavoidable impurities; having a mill scale thickness of 50 mu m or less; and further satisfying 0.4 < (0.88Ä%AlÜ + 1.14Ä%SiÜ) < 1.5. It is preferable that the steel further contains one or more of Nb, V, Mo, Cu, Ni, Cr and B.
