The piston (1) has a piston shaft and a piston head (3), where a part such as a cap (13), a dome (10) or a cavity of the head is controlled in a reversibly adjustable manner after installing the piston into an internal combustion engine. The head or the part of the head is adjustable between two end positions. The dome is adjustable with respect to a piston bowl (9). The cavity is filled with an alloy (15) with low melting point. An independent claim is also included for a method for changing a compression ratio in a combustion chamber of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine.
