A portable device for receiving DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and a method thereof are provided to receive the DMB satisfactorily though the portable device get out of a receipt area. A portable device for receiving DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) comprises a storage unit(201), an antenna, a tuner(100), a decoding unit(202), a determining unit(203), a selecting unit(204) and an outputting unit(300). The storage unit(201) stores channel information for each area. The antenna receives DMB signals. The tuner(100) selects a specific channel regarding set DMB signals inputted from the antenna, and filters the DMB signals. The decoding unit(202) performs a channel decoding operation regarding the DMB signals inputted from the tuner(100) and then audio and data decoding operation for the DMB signals. The determining unit(203) determines whether the portable device corresponds to an area channel stored at the storage unit(201) according to the decoded data inputted from the decoding unit(202), measures field intensity of a current area or adjacent areas when receipt sensitivity gets lower, receives signals of an area where the field intensity is high, broadcasts signals via the same channel as a current receipt channel in case that the area where the field intensity is high and broadcasts signals via a default channel stored at the storage unit(201) in case that there does not exist the same channel as the current receipt channel in the adjacent areas. The determining unit(203) measures the field intensity of the current area or the adjacent areas, maintains a current area and channel in case that there does not exist signals of the adjacent areas, and repeats measuring field intensity of the current area or the adjacent areas in case that the receipt sensitivity gets lower after a set time has passed. The selecting unit(204) selects the determined area channel among the channels stored at the storage unit(201). The outputting unit(300) displays the broadcast selected by the selecting unit(204).
