HEADLIGHT CONTROL DEVICE AND METHOD BY SURROUNDING BRIGHTNESS AND DISTANCE BETWEEN A CAR

An apparatus for controlling a headlight according to a peripheral luminance and a distance between cars and a control method thereof are provided to secure a viewing angle of a driver by adjusting automatically an angle of the headlight. An external light sensing unit(10) senses the light amount of a periphery of a vehicle. A distance measurement sensing unit(20) senses an opposite lane and a distance from a front traveling vehicle. A microcomputer(30) receives and analyzes signals from the external light sensing unit and the distance measurement sensing unit and outputs a headlight control signal corresponding to the signals. A headlight driving unit(40) adjusts an angle of the headlight according to a control of the microcomputer. The distance measurement sensing unit includes a light emitting part for generating infrared rays and a light receiving part for receiving the infrared rays reflected from the opposite lane and the forward traveling vehicle.
