PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus state display device capable of easily and accurately performing focusing by MF in a camera for performing mount climbing AF and capable of performing MF. SOLUTION: The focus state display device for the camera is provided with: an imaging part 1; a focusing evaluation value calculation part 2 for calculating a focusing evaluation value for evaluating a degree of focusing of an object image at present time on the basis of an image signal outputted from the imaging part 1; a peak detection part 3 for detecting that the focusing evaluation value passes a peak value by referring to the focusing evaluation value outputted from the focusing evaluation value calculation part 2; a focusing meter preparation part 5 for preparing a focusing meter image for visually expressing the focusing evaluation value; a meter format control part 4 for generating a signal instructing a display format or the like of a display bar or the like prepared by the focusing meter preparation part 5 and outputting the generated signal to the focusing meter preparation part 5; and a display part 6 for composing an image and outputting the composed image to a monitor 7.
