PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature detection method for a display panel with which display characteristics of a display device can be accurately inspected, and also to provide an inspection instrument using the same, and a display device which is driven most suitably in accordance with a temperature state. SOLUTION: In the temperature detection method for the display panel, the transparent substrate of a display panel is irradiated with prescribed light from its normal direction, and luminance of light exiting from the side end of the transparent substrate is detected, and the detected luminance is converted to a temperature.
