PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of accurately measuring the photographing location or attitude of a photographing device or coordinates of objects on the basis of time-serially changing photograph images. SOLUTION: A series of photograph images are acquired by time-serial photographing. Characteristic points are extracted from the photograph images. The characteristic points are tracked and related to one another. Stereoscopic images are selected from the series of photograph images related to one anther, oriented, and three-dimensionally measured. Three-dimensional coordinates of corresponding characteristic points determined by the three-dimensional measurement are back-projected to the photograph images to compute the residual between coordinates of the corresponding characteristic points and coordinates of the back-projected corresponding characteristic points. On the basis of the computed residual, the appropriateness of the corresponding characteristic points to three-dimensional measurement is judged. Corresponding characteristic points judged as inappropriate are deleted. By performing orientation and three-dimensional measurements without the deleted corresponding characteristic points, it is possible to improve measurement accuracy. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
