The invention relates to a method for refining of fats and/or oils by preparation of a crude oil, obtained from plant or animal material, subjecting the crude oil to a bleaching step by treatment with a fuller's earth product containing a raw clay with a specific surface area of more than 200 m²/g, an ion exchange capacity of more than 40 meq/l00g, and a total pore volume of more than 0.4 ml/g, where at least 40% of the total pore volume of the pores available has a pore diameter of at least 14 nm and at most 25 % of the pore volume of the pores available has a pore diameter of less than 7.5 nm and the bleached oil is then separated from the fuller's earth product.
