The device has an inert gas guide (2) that guides the inert gas to a mixing unit under pressure, where the gas is mixed with air in a specified ratio to a discharge gas in the mixing unit, which is a ventilator (6) or a pump. The oxygen portion of the discharge gas lies below a limit value in which the fire is extinguished by lack of fire, where the discharge gas is supplied to a discharge gas guide (16) of a storage space. An intake guide (17) is provided for the air, where an inlet of the intake guide is arranged in the storage space. An independent claim is also included for fire-fighting.
