PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital recorder/reproducer capable of displaying a recording date in synchronism with a video image when DV stream data is reproduced. SOLUTION: The digital recorder/reproducer comprises a DV codec section for acquiring recording date information from an input DV stream, an information processing section for detecting the discontinuous point of the DV stream, an MPEG codec section for converting the DV stream, a recording section for recording the output data on a recording medium and recording the recording date information acquired from a pack header every time when the discontinuous point is detected on the recording medium as chapter data 86, a microcomputer for calculating the actual recording date 104 from the recording date information t0 of the discontinuous point and a time codeΔt when the data is reproduced, an OSD section generating the display data of recording date thus calculated, and a display processing section for outputing the recording date display signal and the reproduced data while compounding.
