<p>Disclosed is a glass for illumination which is capable of shielding ultraviolet light on the longer wavelength side such as 313 nm. In this glass for illumination, a TiO<SUB>2</SUB> crystal is hardly produced and phase splitting hardly occurs. Also disclosed is an outer container for fluorescent lamps which uses such a glass for illumination. Further disclosed is a method for producing such an outer container for fluorescent lamps. Specifically disclosed is a glass for illumination characterized by containing, in mass percentage, 50-78% of SiO<SUB>2</SUB>, 12.2-25% of B<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, 1.4-11% of Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, 0-5% of Li<SUB>2</SUB>O, 0-6% of Na<SUB>2</SUB>O, 0-8% of K<SUB>2</SUB>O, 3-8% of Li<SUB>2</SUB>O + Na<SUB>2</SUB>O + K<SUB>2</SUB>O, 0-10% of MgO, 0-10% of CaO, 0-20% of SrO, 0-20% of BaO, 0-15% of ZnO, 2.1-3.7% of TiO<SUB>2</SUB>, 0-0.05% of Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O, 0-10% of ZrO<SUB>2</SUB> and 0-5% of As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> + Sb<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>. This glass for illumination is also characterized in that TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> is within the range of 0.2-2.6.</p> |
