PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute automatic judgement as to whether or not a few color print is requested by taking into account the number of colors printed actually.

SOLUTION: The image processing method includes: a step 108 of judging whether or not a color component value of each pixel of read image data exists at the outside of a color reproduction range; a step 110 of replacing the pixel whose color component value is outside the color reproduction range with the color component value within the color reproduction range; a step 120 of judging whether or not a color component value of a judgement object pixel satisfies a judgement condition on the basis of a reference value K and a dispersion value α calculated on the basis of the color component value of the judgement object pixel; a step 124 of executing number of color measurement processing on the basis of a color error permissible range β when the pixel is judged to be a color pixel; the number of colors N is number of colors of a few color print K2 or below by counting the number of colors N of the read image data on the basis of the color component value after replacement of the judgement object pixel in a step 138 and the processing is finished for all pixels in a step 140, then executing color print processing of a step 142; and a step 144 of executing a few color charge accounting processing.
