PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric contact material that is excellent in sliding properties and wear resistance, has a long service lifetime, and can be inexpensively manufactured. SOLUTION: The electric contact material is composed by providing a first layer which has an arithmetic mean roughness Ra=(A)μm and is made of a noble metal or an alloy mainly composed of the noble metal on a conductive substrate, and a second layer which has a film thickness of more than 0.001×(A)μm and less than (A)μm and is made of a noble metal or an alloy mainly composed of the noble metal, at the upper layer of the first layer. The noble metal forming the second layer or the noble metal as the main component of the alloy forming the second layer is an element different from that of the noble metal forming the first layer or the noble metal as the main component of the alloy forming the first layer.
