PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a sufficient passing water quantity, even if a mesh of a screen belt is made small. SOLUTION: This belt type screen device is constituted so that the screen belt 6 extended to a pair of rotary members 2 is inclined, and its one end is inserted into a waterway, and water is made to flow in the waterway while making the screen belt 6 travel, and a foreign substance on a water surface and in the water is filtered by the screen belt 6. One end of the screen belt 6 is extended to the upstream side of the waterway, and banks 10 extending in the longitudinal direction are erected in respective side frames 1b of an extension part 6b. While continuously arranging these banks 10 with the side frame 1a on the screen belt body part 6a side, a dam 20 is arranged on the upstream side of the extension part 6b of the screen belt 6 on the inside of the waterway, and the water overflowing from the dam 20 is dropped in the extension part 6b of the screen belt 6.
