PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording and reproducing device that can eliminate influences of ISI (inter symbol interference) between cells not only adjacent in vertical and longitudinal directions but adjacent in diagonal directions and can achieve high accuracy alignment without depending on a mark. SOLUTION: Information sequences to be recorded are coded with a constant DC by a coding means 30, and further the coded sequences are two-dimensionally arranged while continuous sequences of "0" are inserted to every prescribed row in the two-dimensional sequences to obtain stripe modulation. By the characteristics of the stripes, the ISI can be decreased and the alignment without depending on a mark can be achieved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
