Domed glazing elements of glass having a reinforcement in the form of a filament or filaments disposed in substantially concentric relation with the apex of the dome, are formed from a reinforced glass plate which is heated, or still in a plastic state from forming, and shaped in a mould. A spirally arranged filament may be used or a number of independent endless filaments lying in parallel planes. To maintain the coils in correct relation during moulding, they are interconnected by radial securing wires which may be of zig-zag or sinuous form. The parts of the dome which have been in contact with the mould may have a thin transparent layer of a synthetic resin, film or a lacquer to restore the transparency. The reinforcements may be of metallic wire, asbestos thread or glass fibre filaments. The dome may be circular or ellipsoidal. |
