An envelope of an image display device has a rear substrate (10) and a front substrate (12) opposed to the rear substrate. A plurality of pixel display elements (22) are provided inside the envelope. The front substrate and the rear substrate have respective peripheral portions thereof sealed together with a sealing material (32).
