An apparatus and a method for detecting a scratch on a metal drum using an image is provided to detect a minute scratch and foreign substances on the metal drum at a high speed. An apparatus for detecting a scratch on a metal drum using an image includes a lens(12), a camera(11), an illuminating unit(13), a drum rotating unit(15), and a camera transferring stage(16). The lens is adapted to project an image of a drum to a sensor of the camera. The camera is adapted to acquire an image on a surface of the drum projected through the lens. The illuminating unit generates light for clearly emphasizing the scratch existing on the surface of the drum. The drum rotating unit rotates the drum according to the photographing speed of the camera. The camera transferring stage is adapted to axially feed the camera.
