DRIVE DEVICE FOR TIRE BUILDING DRUM

A drive device for a tire building drum, where a load during rotation of the drum can be reduced and expansion/contraction operation of the drum can be stably performed. A center shaft section (2) of the building drum (D) is made up of a tubular outer shaft (3), an inner screw shaft (4), a tubular outer shaft (13) connected to the outer shaft (3), an intermediate shaft (14) connected to the screw shaft (4), a first motor (15) as rotation drive means for rotating the drum, connected to the outer shaft (13), and a second motor (20) as rotation drive means for expanding and contracting the drum, disengageably connected to the intermediate shaft (14) through a clutch (21). Change-over of the clutch (21) allows, when the drum is rotated, the second motor (20) to be held disengaged from the intermediate shaft (14) and, when the drum is expanded/contracted, the second motor (20) to be held engaged to the intermediate shaft (14).
