PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional photonic crystal surface emitting laser light source which ensures higher power laser light than prior art. SOLUTION: The laser light source comprises: two-dimensional photonic crystal in which vacancies 242A of the same shape are arranged periodically on a plate-shaped host material; and an active layer provided on one side of the two-dimensional photonic crystal. The vacancy 242A does not exist on a first half line 251 extending in a plane of the two-dimensional photonic crystal while starting from the center of gravity G1 of the vacancy but exits on at least part of a second half line 252 extending on the opposite side of the first half line 251. Light emitted as a result of injection of electric charges into the active layer forms electric field vectors surrounding the center of gravity G1 in the two-dimensional photonic crystal. There is no vacancy at a position symmetrical with respect to the center of gravity G1, to a position on the second half line 252 where the vacancy 242A exists, so that refractive indexes at both positions are different. It is hereby possible to prevent the electric field vectors at both positions from disappearing owing to interference thereof. This ensures higher power laser light than prior art.
