The compensating device (20) comprises at least a first tensioning device (21) and a second tensioning device (22). The hoisting ropes in the set of hoisting ropes (3) are secured by one end to a point in conjunction with the first tensioning device (21) and by the other end to a point in conjunction with the second tensioning device (22). The rotary motions of the tensioning device (21) and (22) are interconnected via a transmission ratio.
