PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk drive unit which is excellent in operability and reliability and can be made compact. SOLUTION: The disk drive unit comprises: a fixed part; and an extension/contraction part supported elastically to the fixed part. A disk drive part is mounted on the fixed part, and the extension/contraction part is driven by an extension/contraction drive mechanism to extend and contract to the fixed part. First and second disk holding levers 57, 58 of a disk loading mechanism include disk holding members 57b, 58b for holding both sides in the center of an inserted recording medium, respectively, and are provided so as to move between a first position for holding the recording medium and a second position circumferentially separated from the recording medium. The respective disk holding members include: a disk circumferential abutting part for abutting a circumferential edge of the recording medium; a disk upper surface abutting part for abutting one surface of the recording medium to position a thickness direction of the recording medium; and a disk lower surface abutting part for resiliently abutting the other surface of the recording medium to press the recording medium on the disk upper surface abutting part.
