PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming technique that achieves a good image quality by performing gradation correction based on the kind of paper used to thereby prevent image defects.

SOLUTION: An image forming method in an image forming apparatus, which forms an image on a recording medium by correcting gradation depending on an amount of color materials applied according to image forming conditions, inputs recording medium information and determines calibration conditions of the recording medium from the recording medium information. The gradation is corrected into the image forming conditions according to the recording medium on the basis of the determined calibration conditions.
