A method and an apparatus for generating sewing data are provided to improve an editing function or usability of the apparatus, by moving a pattern to a desired position of a sewing fabric. A predetermined position on a first sewing pattern is defined as a division position(CP). A head of a second pattern(9) is connected to an end(CP) of a head pattern(7). A head of an end pattern(8) is connected to an end of the second sewing pattern. A sewing data generating apparatus has a movable pattern operating and displaying unit, which moves the ending pattern to a target position by connecting the end of the head pattern to the head of the second pattern and connecting the head of the end pattern to the end of the second pattern.
