A device for stopping a vacuum cleaner by using a telephone is provided to allow a user to talk on the telephone in a quiet atmosphere by turning off the vacuum cleaner after sensing that the telephone rings while the vacuum cleaner is in operation. A device for stopping a vacuum cleaner by using a telephone comprises a main telephone(11), a sub telephone(12), and the vacuum cleaner(21). The main telephone, connected with a telephone wire by wire, communicates with the sub telephone by processing a wireless data signal through an RF transceiver(93). The sub telephone is mounted to the vacuum cleaner to communicate with the main telephone in the limited range through a RF transceiver(43). A control unit(41) of the sub telephone controls communication with the base station and ring of the cellular phone through the RF transceiver unit. The ringing unit makes cellular phone sounds with an incoming call transferred by the base station. The light emitting unit lights when the cellular phone rings. The vacuum cleaner includes a power unit(18), a speed control unit(17), a control unit(20), a sensing unit(19), a drive power sustaining unit, a switching unit(31), and a reset unit(27). The speed control unit outputs a control signal to control the rotation speed of a motor through the control unit. The control unit of the vacuum cleaner receives the control signal from the speed control unit and accelerates or decelerates the motor. A signal converting unit converts the light signals into a current signal and inputs the current signal to the control unit to determine absence and presence of a sensing signal.
