[Also in Divisions B4 and G4] A fluid operated punching machine in which record cards 83, Fig. 1, are moved successively into a punching station and data punched thereon comprises a keyboard input 9 for producing a fluid signal representing a bit of data to be punched, a bi-stable fluid amplifier 3 responsive to the fluid signal for storing the data bit and continuously producing a fluid output signal, a further fluid amplifier 5 having a power stream input channel 61, an output channel 63 connected to a fluid actuated punch 81 and a control signal input channel 59 for receiving the output signal from the amplifier 3 and deflecting the power stream of the amplifier 5 to its output channel 63, a readout control means 11 permitting the intermittent application of a power stream to the channel 61 to actuate the punch so that the data bit may be recorded a plurality of times in response to a simple fluid signal from the keyboard input. The amplifier 3 comprises a power stream input channel 13, a first output channel 15 for normally receiving an applied power stream and a second output channel 17,a first control signal input channel 19 responsive to the fluid signal from a key 39 for switching the power stream to the channel 17 to thereby store the data bit and a second control signal input channel 21 through which a fluid signal formed by a key 41 may be applied to switch the power stream back to the channel 15. The amplifier 5 has a second output channel 65 for receiving the power stream intermittently applied to its input channel 61 while the power stream of the amplifier 3 is flowing in its output channel 15. A circuit, Fig. 2, for enabling a value in binary coded decimal form to be punched repeatedly in response to a single actuation of a key representing a decimal value comprises a fluid source 1, a plurality of bi-stable fluid amplifier memory elements 3, a further plurality of fluid amplifiers 5, a readout control 11 and a translator 99 having a plurality of fluid amplifier OR gates 100 to 107.
