PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head which can be improved in head reliability by raising a recognition rate of a solid object discrimination pattern and can be improved in a yield, and to provide a manufacturing method of the same. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head is provided with an element part including at least either a reproducing element or a recording element, and an element wiring part for making an electric connection between an electrode pad exposed on a head surface and the element part, wherein a ground film of light shielding property covering at least a part of the element part and element wiring part is formed on an upper layer than the element wiring part, and a discrimination pattern layer for head solid object discrimination is formed on an upper layer further than this ground film.
