<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk provided with a protective layer having high mechanical strength durable to further thinness of a film and high affinity with a lubricant layer and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: In the magnetic disk provided with a magnetic layer 50, the protective layer 60 and the lubricant layer 70 in this order on a substrate 10, after the magnetic layer 50 and the protective layer 60 are formed in this order on the substrate 10, the protective layer 60 is exposed to plasma under normal pressure and then the lubricant layer 70 is formed on the protective layer 60. The plasma is generated in at least one gas selected from a nitrogen gas, an argon gas, an oxygen gas and a fluorinated hydrocarbon gas.
