PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an image where a user has a deep impression, as a thumbnail image for a moving image without giving needless troubles to the user. SOLUTION: In a thumbnail generating device used for an imaging apparatus capable of photographing a still image while photographing the moving image, when the still image is photographed while the moving image is photographed; a thumbnail image is generated concurrently with the photographing timing of the still image, and the thumbnail image is related to the photographed moving and still images. When a plurality of still images are photographed during the photography of the moving image, the reduced image of the most characteristic still image is generated as the thumbnail image.
