PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of horizontal lines or vertical lines generated when a picture is projected by scanning a one-dimensional optical modulation element. SOLUTION: The picture projector has a modulation optical part provided with the one-dimensional optical modulation element, a projection optical part and a scanning optical part, wherein the scanning optical part is provided with a polygon mirror 20, at least one of the normal line directions v1 to v6 of mirror faces 201 to 206 of the polygon mirror 20 is tilted by a predetermined angle amongθ1 toθ6 from the direction along a face 20u which is perpendicular to the rotation axis of the polygon mirror 21. Refection light is deflected and moves vertically, for example, the lateral streak due to the inhomogeneity of the optical modulation element is diffused and homogeneity is improved.
