摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a domain-divided liquid crystal display device of VATN mode, in which a higher aperture rate and improved display characteristics are obtained. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a first substrate and a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer provided between the substrates, a first alignment layer provided on a surface of the first substrate on the side of the liquid crystal layer, and a second alignment layer provided on a surface of the second substrate on the side of the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer contains liquid crystal molecules having negative dielectric constant anisotropy, and the first alignment layer and second alignment layer align nearby liquid crystal molecules substantially perpendicularly to alignment layer surfaces and orthogonally to each other and also have two or more regions where the nearby liquid molecules are aligned in different directions for each pixel.
