The device has a control/evaluation unit (8) that delivers information about volume of a medium (11) flowing through a measuring tube (2), based on a measuring voltage in measuring electrodes (4, 5). The unit applies an overvoltage to a coil arrangement (6, 7) during change of a magnetic field for a reference-time period and applies a counter voltage after a sequence of the reference-time period for a preset time period. The preset time period is measured, while the counter voltage is applied such that the arrangement stands in a constant ratio to the reference-time period.
