PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azimuth measuring method for an apparatus in an environment where any external information can not be acquired, which can accurately measure an azimuthal angle of the apparatus in the case a gyro rotation axis is not vertical but inclined. SOLUTION: In the azimuth measuring method for the apparatus in the environment where any external information can not be acquired, being an azimuth measuring method which rotates a gyro about an axis being not vertical and detects a direction of the earth's rotational axis, the azimuthal angle of the principal axis of the apparatus is measured so as to be unaffected by changes in gyro sensitivity and offsets.
