PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing a vehicle from uncontrollably traveling capable of stopping or decelerating the vehicle uncontrollably traveling diagonally downward in an inclined shaft. SOLUTION: This device comprises a blocking means (blocking plates 4, 4, a connection wire 5) 2 so installed on the bottom surface TS of an inclined shaft T as to be raised from and retracted to the bottom surface and abutting on the vehicle uncontrollably traveling diagonally downward when raised to block it and a drive means (cylinder devices 15, 15) 3 for so driving the blocking means 2 as to be raised and retracted. When the vehicle uncontrollably travels in the inclined shaft T diagonally downward, the vehicle is collided with the blocking means 2 during the traveling, and the impact is received by the blocking means 2.
