PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film especially for VA, IPS and OCB modes which can be easily teared in a TD direction, accurately and optically compensates a liquid crystal cell and improves high contrast and a color shift depending on a visual angle direction of black display, to provide a manufacturing method of the same and to provide a polarizing plate using the optical film.

SOLUTION: The optical film is characterized in that a value obtained by dividing a smaller value of values of breaking elongation in a longer side direction of the film and breaking elongation in a direction nearly orthogonal to the longer side direction by the other value is 0.01 to 0.28, or a value obtained by dividing a larger value of values of breaking strength in the longer side direction of the film and breaking strength in the direction nearly orthogonal to the longer side direction by the other value is 1.3 to 10.0.
