In a flow divider valve, e.g. for distributing the pressure fluid delivery between a motor vehicle steering circuit 19 and a secondary hydraulic brake circuit 21, a flow control valve member 1 provided with ports 8, 8A, and within which is slidably mounted a pressure relief valve spool 10, is movable against the bias of spring 6 by means of the fluid pressure drop across an interchangeable orifice plate 14, retained within spool 10, and fluid pressure acting on the outside face of the closed end of member 1 via a " flat " or annular clearance around the member 10 (not shown). The member 1 is displaceable to partially but never completely obturate the flow from inlet 17 and chamber 18 of the housing 3 to outlet 19 (to a steering circuit) and to a secondary outlet 30, provided with a relief valve 26, to a secondary circuit 23 which also constitutes a relief by-pass for steering circuit relief valve 10. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) orifice 15 is omitted from plate 14 and the function thereof is replaced by a constricted passage 32 through the valve housing 3.
