A method of regulating focus position of an optical disk device in a relatively short time is provided to improve recording or reproducing quality by scanning a certain area of the optical disk and detecting predetermined number of RF levels, or moving the scanning area according to the measured RF level pattern and re-measuring the RF levels. A method for regulating focus position of an optical disk device comprises the steps measuring a predetermined number of RF levels while scanning a certain area of the inserted optical disk(S12), determining whether RF level measurement action is re-progressed or not on the basis of measured RF level pattern(S30), moving the scanning area based on the maximum point of measured RF levels according to the result(S40), re-performing the scanning action and the RF measurement action for moved scanning area(S41), and regulating focus position on the basis of RF levels measured by re-performing the RF measurement action(S31).
