A plastic, planar structure comprises: a bearing layer (1) which contains plastic foam (3); and an upper layer (4), also containing plastic foam (4), which adheres such as by fusion on the bearing layer (1). The structure may be formed by providing a mat-shaped or web-shaped bearing layer (1) of a foamed or foamable first plastic material (3), onto which a foamable second plastic material (4) is applied, and foamed. The upper layer may only partially cover the bearing layer and may form an image, motif, design or pattern on the bearing layer. The bearing layer may comprise a meshed product or fabric as an inlay (2).The polymer or polymers of the two layers may be PVC, acrylate. PUR, natural rubber, synthetic rubber, PMMA or unsaturated polyester. The planar structure may have both an optically appealing and a haptically pleasant surface. Applications include shower tub or bath tub inlays, floor coverings in wet areas such as private baths, public indoor swimming pools or sauna areas, gym mats and other exercise mats and table coverings. |
