The present invention relates to a decorative foil that is configured as a layer composite (1) and comprises at least one transparent base foil (2), a transparent cover layer (4) and a dielectric layer (3) arranged between the base foil (2) and the cover layer (4). When the decorative foil is used as laminating foil for a substrate, the material of the cover layer (4) is an adhesive. A reflecting metal layer (6) is arranged at least in certain parts of the surface between the dielectric layer (3) and the cover layer (4). Optionally, a metal film (11) is also arranged on the side of the dielectric layer (3) facing the base foil (2). A first boundary layer, characterized by spontaneous change in refraction index, is disposed between said dielectric layer (3) and base foil (2). Method of inscribing decorative foils is characterized in that using laser beams (19), local spots are perforated in metal layers (6, 11), disposed in the layer composite (1) and being in contact with the dielectric layer (3), due to evaporation of metal within the region of laser beam (19) impingement. Consequently, by perforating the metal layers (6, 11) in the layer composite (1), transparent spots (7) representing inscribed spots are thus formed. The invented decorative foil can be used to seal a surface (29) of a substrate (5) intended for protection. |
