A method for automatically generating a recording table in a digital broadcasting receiver is provided to grasp a viewing pattern of a user and record a broadcasting program on the basis of the grasped viewing pattern automatically when the user is absent. A microcomputer records the viewing record of a user in slots classified by predetermined time during a predetermined period(S200). The microcomputer searches slot pairs in which the same program is assigned to a start part and an end part among the slots, extracts slot pairs which are repeated by a uniform number or more during the predetermined period, and sets the extracted slot pairs as pattern candidates(S202,S204). The microcomputer adds the number of the same slots included in the slot pairs corresponding to the set respective pattern candidates, calculates respective average values, and calculates viewing concentration degree for the respective pattern candidates(S206). The microcomputer weights the number of the slot pairs to the calculated respective viewing concentration degree, and sets at least one or more pattern candidates having a predetermined value or more among the weighted values as primary priority(S208). The microcomputer grasps genres for the pattern candidates, accumulates viewing time for the respective genres, and calculates weight values according to the respective genres(S210). The microcomputer operates the genre-classified weight values corresponding to the respective pattern candidates set up as the primary priority, and sets at least one or more pattern candidates having the predetermined value or more among the operated values as secondary priority(S212). The microcomputer compares information about the pattern candidates having the second priority with an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) received in a digital broadcasting receiver, and generates recording pattern data(S214).
