PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering angle detector capable of precisely detecting steering angle over the whole range of steering angle with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The steering angle detector is constituted such that: a groove 12 which is gradually varied in depth from one side to the other side on the rack shaft 1 in an axial length direction; a part of the movable piece 41 is made to abut with the bottom of the groove 12 provided with the support yoke 3, by detecting the displacement of the movable piece generated corresponding to the movement of the rack shaft 1 the steering angle of a vehicle is calculated. Because of providing the groove 12 which includes groove continuously varying the depth, the movable piece 41 displaces following to the depth of abutting position corresponding to the displacement of the rack shaft 1, by the displacement, the movement amount of the rack shaft is unambiguously can be known, therefore, over the whole range of the steering angle can be highly precisely detected with a simple constitution.
