[Also in Division H3] An impedance transformer for short pulses comprises an active impedance transformer in parallel with a transmission line type impedance transformer. As shown the active element is a transistor in common emitter configuration with negative feedback or in common base or common collector configuration (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) and the line type transformer may be a pair of lines connected in series at the input and in parallel at the output, one line being surrounded by a ferrite ring. A crossover network (L 1 , C 1 ) passes the lower frequencies to the transistor and the upper frequencies to the line so that a very wide bandwidth is covered. The line transformer may be of strip line form (Fig. 5) and this may be connected in series with a 1 : 1 transforming line (Fig. 6). |
