Antioxidative active substance fraction from Rheum species for cosmetic formulation that is useful as e.g. skin care cosmetic, where the preparation of active substance fraction comprises: extracting dried and ground root samples with methanol; separating lipophilic material from the formed aqueous phase under complete removal of methanol; agitating the pure aqueous phase with ethylacetate; separating the combined ethylacetate phase in column chromatography to a limited number of active substance fractions; and condensing the active substance fraction with same content spectrum. Antioxidative active substance fraction from Rheum species for cosmetic formulation that is useful as skin care cosmetic, sun protecting agent, to treat diaper dermatitis and neuro dermatitis, where the preparation of active substance fraction comprises: extracting dried and ground root samples with methanol; separating lipophilic material from the formed aqueous phase under complete removal of methanol; agitating the pure aqueous phase with ethylacetate; column chromatographically separating the combined ethylacetate phase in to a limited number of active substance fractions; and condensing the active substance fraction with same content spectrum.
