PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recorder, etc. which can give a smooth tone image, without being influenced of heat accumulated in a thermal head. SOLUTION: A control unit 9 of a thermal printer 1 performs a resolution conversion, a gray scale conversion of input image data 3, and performs CMYK plate processing. In order to acquire image data of double tone, as opposed to image data of each color which undergo CMYK plate processing, the control unit 9 performs shift processing according to resolution of the thermal printer 1, and the number of lines of the thermal printer 1. After dot processing of the image data which omit the shift processing, and the image data which have undergo the shift processing, reverse shift processing is performed to the image data which performed the shift processing. It piles up as a double tone and print is carried out. Thereby, there is no collapse by thermal storage of the thermal head, and print out of the output image 15 of smooth tone without feeling of rough deposits is carried out. After the CMYK plates are released, at least one color (for example, Y and/or K) uses a single tone, shift processing for double tone may be carried out to the other color.
