PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutter tip of an edge replaceable type which well attains both excellent abrasion resistance on a flank and excellent fusion resistance on a rake face. SOLUTION: The cutter tip of an edge replaceable type has a substrate and a coating layer formed on the substrate. The substrate has at least one flank and at least one rake face. The coating layer includes at least an alumina layer as one of its layers. The alumina layer contains alumina having anα-type crystalline structure on the flank as a main body, and contains another type of alumina different from the alumina having theα-type crystalline structure on the rake face.
