PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform design for fully reducing peak values of vibration and noise generated in a continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: Initial arrangement of two elements with different thickness is set (S101) so that a condition that board thickness of elements separated by m/2 pieces (m is the total number of elements) in the belt circumferential direction are different is established regarding all the elements. To the initial arrangement of the elements, i-th to i+n-th elements and elements separated by m/2 pieces from the elements are replaced with each other (S104), when the maximum value of an index representing frequency components of belt vibration does not decrease before and after replacement of the elements, procedures of returning replacement of the elements (S106-S107) are executed regarding combinations of all the i and n satisfying 1≤i≤m/2, and 0≤n≤m/2-2.
