A silica-containing rubber composition for tires which comprises: a rubber ingredient comprising (a) 20-80 wt.% vinyl-cis polybutadiene rubber containing 1,2-polybutadiene having a melting point of 170°C or higher and at least one polymer having at least one unsaturated double bond per repeating unit and selected among polyisoprene, crystalline polybutadiene having a melting point of 150°C or lower, liquid polybutadiene, and derivatives of these; and (b) 80-20 wt.% diene rubber other than the ingredient (a); and a rubber reinforcement (c) comprising 40% or more silica, the amount of the reinforcement (c) being 40-100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the sum of the rubbers (a) and (b). In the composition, the 1,2-polybutadiene and the polymer are dispersed in the forms of short crystalline fibers and of particles, respectively, in the cis polybutadiene rubber, which is a matrix ingredient in the vinyl-cis polybutadiene rubber (a). The short crystalline fibers of the 1,2-polybutadiene are dispersed in the particles of the polymer.
