<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode material which has no deterioration of discharging rate characteristics and a battery capacity in a low temperature environment at -30°C and has excellent cycle characteristics, and provide a lithium secondary battery using the material. <P>SOLUTION: The cathode material is composed of a plurality of primary particles which are condensed to form secondary particles, and a length common to each of the primary particles in a cross section of the secondary particle is 10 to 70% of a total peripheral length in the cross section of the primary particle, and the secondary particle is a composite oxide crystal as shown in a formula Li<SB>a</SB>Mn<SB>x</SB>Ni<SB>y</SB>Co<SB>z</SB>O<SB>2</SB>in which 1≤a≤1.2, 0≤x≤0.65, 0.35≤y<0.5, 0≤z≤0.65 and x+y+z=1, and a lithium secondary battery is provided with the above cathode material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
