<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar polarized light source device capable of illuminating a large area, and which is comparatively inexpensive, and to provide a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of polarized light source parts 110 with a polarized light separating/reflecting sheet 115 for emitting polarized light provided on the light exit surface thereof are arrayed, and a diffusion sheet 104 is arranged facing the polarized light source parts. The anisotropic axis of the diffusion sheet is aligned with the polarization axis of the polarized light source part. By having such the constitution, the total area of the polarized light separating/reflecting sheet used for the plurality of polarized light source parts is drastically reduced as compared with the conventional constitution where the polarized light separating/reflecting sheet is provided on the whole illuminating surface of the planar polarized light source, then, the cost reduction is attained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
